Mother’s Day Gift Guide & 10 Reasons Why My Mum Is My Bestie

Mother's Day gift ideas

I talked to her about 30 minutes ago and I honestly just want to re-dial her and chat more. I love my bestie aka my momma. How great are mums, right? My perfectly organised Excel spreadsheet has reminded me to publish my February Faves today but I just had to re-schedule it, sneak this one in so I could share some love and appreciation to all the amazing mums and mums-to-be who would happen to be reading these very lines right now. If you haven’t yet got a present for your mum or grandma (or any other special lady in your life who’s a momma), this last-min (unique and cute) gift guide might be just what you need. Most of the ideas are customisable – there’s nothing better than a personal touch in any present. While we are on the subject of being personal, I am also about to share 10 reasons why my mum is my bestie. I could share over 1000 but I better mention those to my mum in person 😉

Finding a perfect gift can be a challenge. Especially if it is for someone very special. Often we can spend hours thinking and browsing – and nada! I love giving gifts so much more than receiving them but it generally requires to REALLY put your thinking cap on! That’s when Pinterest comes in handy to feed that inspo need. Etsy is also one of my favourites because I always seem to come across a gift I love. My discovery as of last year was this website called Not On The High Street (that’s where all the images and ideas below are from). This is not a sponsored post, I’m just sharing my genuine excitement about the fact how amazing NOTHS is! Here are the little gifts I thought would make any mum, grandma, auntie or friend happy. I love them all, especially those beautiful prints. #myweakness

Being 1,588 miles away (thanks, Google Maps) from my mum is not easy. Even though I haven’t lived in my parents’ house for 10+ years (I started uni in a different city when I was 16), I still visited them and vice versa every two weeks. Moving to a different country was a whole new story. I still see my parents quite a lot but sometimes I wish I could help my dad with his car or go and grab a wee cuppa with mum at the weekend. What do they say – distance makes the heart grow fonder? It really makes you appreciate every minute spent on Skype or during a visit. There is an unlimited numbers of reasons why I love my mum and why she is my best friend.  Here are 10 out of 1 gazillion:

1. It’s an unbreakable bond.

I am not saying friendships don’t last. They do if friends work on their relationship. Mum & daughter friendship is a whole new level of closeness. She will never let me down and our relationship is as secure as it can get.

2. She’s AMAZING!

Not only she is one of the most loving people I have ever met/heard of/known in my life but she’s also that loving to everyone! My mum is positive, understanding, humble, hard-working, reliable and my all-time role model.

3. We “get” each other.

I am a late child. Like, really late. Despite the big gap in age, my mum “gets” me better than some of my friends. She is there to listen and she never judges. My mum just knows me inside out without me having to say a word.

4. It’s a selfless thing.

You know how some people are your “friends” because it’s beneficial in one way or another. I would give the whole world to my mum if I could and I know she’d do the same for me. Just because. Out of pure selfless love.

5. She is a fab cook!

I had to include a few fun reasons, right? It’s hard to find food that is better than the way my mum makes it. I am rubbish at cooking comparing to her. Best creamy mash in town? I bet my mum still makes it better! 🙂

6. She’s my 3am friend (and I am hers).

NB: 3am friend is someone who you can call at 3 in the morning and they will be there for you in a heartbeat. She’s that friend who’s at my beck and call 24/7. No grudges, no complaints, no issues – we have each other’s back.

7. Forgive & forget.

I haven’t been the easiest teenager but thankfully got my head screwed back on by the age of 17! 🙂 Mum has also been so patient and understanding with me (#angel). She only keeps remembering the best times.

8. Skin care expert.

Isn’t it absolutely amazing when your mum is able to give you advice on how to look after your skin better? When I used to have awful breakouts, mum would always help to find the best skincare and share little tips and tricks.

9. It’s all about trust.

How many people do you trust 101%? I’m sure it’s not a very wide circle. And it’s completely normal. I can tell my mum the silliest things or the biggest secret and I know it’s kept better than Crown Jewels.

10. She is my mum.

Enough said. She is the best and I am beyond thankful to be her daughter.

Hope you enjoyed this post and that you are going to have a lovely Mother’s Day weekend.

I understand and acknowledge that there are many sensitive cases around this time of the year.

4 years ago I lost my dear auntie and we are still finally it tough going sometimes.

If you know anyone who lost their loved one, make sure to let me know you are there for them.

There are other heartbreaking cases as well when mum might have hurt her children.

Whatever your heart is going through or if you know someone who needs a little lift up this weekend,

support them, talk to them, be present and kind.

And finally, if you have had an argument or not the most pleasant conversation with your mum recently, make the first move and apologize (even if you were right). Mums are so precious.

There is another mum I love and cherish, and that is my mother in law.

What a blessing it is when your hubby’s mum is a star!
