January. I had a bit of a roller coaster relationship with January. As much as it’s supposed to be that I-am-easing-into-everything-after-the-holidays type of a month, it was quite the opposite. Full on rush (I need to learn to make my to-do lists shorter!), full on gloom (sunshine, please, come back to the UK!) and full on almost 95% offline mode (can’t complain about that as it can be refreshing). BUT, we can now officially start the countdown to spring (YAY!). Nevertheless, January was aahhhhmazing when it comes to favourites so there will be many exciting and different things in this post. Get into the time machine with me 😉
You might remember this lovely little pic from my Insta. Because I completely skipped out on doing my December Favourites, I decided it would only be fair to include this special place into my January ones. When we went to the US in December, we decided to explore more of Pennsylvania and came back to Lancaster once again. The Amish County is something else! I am so swooned by their quaint little furniture stores, cozy coffee shops and massive food markets where you can indulge your taste buds. Kitchen Kettle Village is a mini town on its own. We even brought back some of their famous salsa (after sampling at least 10 different flavours). It also might have been the reason why my suitcase was picked for TSA search. The good thing is salsa made it with us all the way to England, and the sad part is it’s all gone. Might just have to go back soon to get more. Couldn’t recommend this place enough if you ever find yourself in Pennsylvania.
The very first time I saw Felicity Jones was in ‘Chalet Girl’, which I watched at least 15 times (not ashamed to admit that one bit). To say she didn’t disappoint in Rogue One would be an understatement. I love Star Wars so I had huge expectations about this movie. Even if you’re not into Star Wars, you will still enjoy the story line and the action. The plot takes you back for a journey to the dawn of the rebellion, completion of the Death Star and the key role Rogue One had in the whole story. They managed to make a completely independent movie, yet it couldn’t fit into the Star Wars story line more perfectly. Not only we get to follow all these amazing relationships/friendships throughout the film (Chirrut was awesome!) but my absolute favourite part is the VERY END of it. I don’t want to spoil it for those of you who haven’t seen it. Let’s just say – the very last word and the person who said it will have you floored, break your heart into tiny little pieces and make you want to smile and cry all at the same time. 5 out of 5 stars.
You might remember from one of the tweets I posted last month that I don’t know what happened to me but I started to drink at least (!) 2L of water daily. I used to be terrible at drinking water. Coffee? Yes! Tea? No problem. As strange as it might sound I found it difficult to REMEMBER to drink water. Until I would get a headache or feel fainty. It is my favourite drink though, and I would always reach out for a glass of water being given an option of that versus a can of Coke. So when I tried to figure out how come I am now drinking so much, it all came down to this bottle. The “miracle” happened when I got this Joseph Joseph Dot Water Bottle as one of my Christmas presents. I found that it helps me track exactly how much I drink. Not only that, but also because I am a bit obsessed with ticking things off. So when I know I “earned” 4 dots, it’s like a big goal checked off (and it feels so good!). Every time you fill this bottle up and close the lid, a white dot appears telling you you’re on bottle no.1. I usually do 3 or 4 every day. This handy little thing comes everywhere with me: work, gym, walk, you name it.
This guy doesn’t need an introduction, especially in the world of YouTube. Louis has always been one of those rare-breed vloggers/YouTubers who stay humble no matter what “heights” they reach. Plus, he is, without a doubt, one of the best travel vloggers ever. Sometimes I come across comments under his videos or Instagram pics about how anyone could do this if they had his equipment and was jetted off to all these exotic destinations. I 100% disagree. You’ve got to have that insatiable passion for travel and photography. It shines through even when you might want to hide it. Plus, it’s a constant learning curve. I couldn’t recommend funforlouis enough because every photo speaks volumes and gives me a massive wanderlust punch. I automatically want to pack bags and take off somewhere. Anywhere.
Well, my “Favourite Beauty Product” or “Favourite Makeup” never includes one item. It’s genuinely impossible to single out only ONE thing. January was actually amazing when it came to exploring a few new brands and products but also enjoying stuff I’ve loved for ages. That’s why the fact that a NARS product is yet again in my favourites would surprise you any more. It is definitely one of my most loved beauty companies. I wrote a full review of NARS Sheer Glow here discussing whether it’s worth the hype. To sum up, NARS Sheer Glow Foundation has the most silky texture, flawless coverage and it wears for hours and hours without parting. I am currently in a shade Medium 1 Punjab. Another absolute favourite last month (it continues to be in February as well) was Rimmel London x Kate 15th Anniversary lipstick in Boho Nude. I couldn’t stop wearing it! It’s just one of the most perfect shades of a nude lipstick. The only downside is that it’s quite drying and it doesn’t last for long but the pigment is insane, and it’s currently discounted here to £5.20 (eeekk!). Next on the list is my new favourite shade of the nail polish. When I first saw Essie Wicked, I knew I had to get that colour ASAP. I got it as one of my presents for Christmas (hubby spoils me big time each year) and I can’t get enough of it. It’s like a much darker version of one of my faves Bahama Mama by Essie, and I am swooned. You might have seen what it looks like on in this Insta pic. Last but not least, I have no idea how come it has taken me so long to try it but I finally got my hands on the Tangle Teezer hair brush (once again, thanks to my very own Santa). I’ve always wanted the original one in Black and their traditional size. Honestly, this is a revolutionary hair brush as it gets through tangled hair like there’s no tomorrow. It doesn’t pull, it doesn’t break my hair and it officially lives in my handbag.
You know how you always come across the same saying when you’re looking for advice on how to achieve your goals. It is actually that simple. Take the first step. Even if the road ahead is long and bumpy. Even when you don’t know all the answers at this stage. Take that baby step in the right direction. You can imagine how excited I was to see this motivational quote on the first page at the start of January in my Dear Diary planner. It actually inspired me so much that I wrote and shared a post on How To Stick To Your Goals In 2017. Goal setting can be quite easy and fun but the difficult part comes afterwards. That’s the stage when you actually have to DO stuff and take action. I think I will be looking back at this page quite a lot to remind myself to keep taking those steps. Another key part of this quote is “the right direction”. So many people pursue things that will cause them nothing but harm in so many ways. That’s why it’s vital to figure out where your path is and which way you should go to live your life to the fullest. Just the other day I shared this pic on my Instagram as a little reminder not to live in your past or by your past. You are the person you are now. With scars earned and lessons learned. Your future is planned and designed in the most beautiful way by God Who loves you. Just take that first step. No matter how small it is.
It’s been a long time since I featured my favourite candle in a post like this. That’s because nothing really stood out to me for a while. Until this Bath & Body Works Spiced Gingerbread candle came along. Unfortunately, it’s not available on their website any more but keep your eyes peeled for it next winter. I can’t gush enough about how much I’ve loved it during the month of January. You know how the worst thing about a scented candle is when it gives off zero scent or it’s barely there. As much as I love Yankee Candle goodies, Bath & Body Works takes that no.1 place easily because of the rich, long-lasting and gorgeous aroma. The scent is subtle (as in, it won’t give you a headache) yet vibrant and it fills the whole room/house in minutes. So many people complimented the smell in our house because of this little guy. I am so sad it’s almost gone but I definitely look forward to checking out Bath & Body Works new spring glow range.
