February Favourites | 2017 + Giveaway

February Favourites 2017, Lifestyle favourites, Flatlay

Yes, we are half way in March but I couldn’t skip and not share my February Favourites. I will probably sound like a broken record but, honestly, where did February go? I mean, it’s already mid-March! Time is flying way too fast for my liking. Nevertheless, month no.2 of 2017 was really great when it came to making memories, going on adventures and having fun while doing all that. Let me take you down the memory lane.

It wouldn’t surprise you one bit that the “Favourite Place” category is rightfully occupied by beautiful Stratford-upon-Avon. When hubby gave me a little envelope on Valentine’s Day (even though we don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day in a “traditional” way), I squealed with excitement when I saw that we were going away for 3 nights in that direction. Not being England born and raised, I’ve grown up dreaming about visiting places like London, Cambridge, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon. Now that I live here in the UK, I know how many more beautiful big and small towns are out there waiting to be explored. A trip to Stratford only took about 2 hours and the city greeted us with full-on sunshine and blue skies. There are lots of things to see and do there, including Shakespeare’s birthplace, Anne Hathaway’s cottage (Shakespeare’s wife, not the famous actress), Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford Butterfly Farm (which is, apparently, the UK’s largest tropical butterfly sanctuary) and a number of funky and cozy coffee shops and restaurants. Read about one of them more below. I posted a number of photos from our trip here, here, here and here. You’re more than welcome to browse for more through my Insta

I know, I am super late to the party. This movie came out in September last year but hubby and I haven’t got a chance to catch it in the theatre. So we were patiently waiting until it was finally available for rent on Amazon. ‘Deepwater Horizon’ is based on a true story, and this one happened fairly recently. 7 years ago there was a disastrous explosion at a drilling rig which resulted in 11 people losing their lives, 17 severely injured and the largest environmental disaster in the US history because of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. ‘Deepwater Horizon’ brings out a human story behind the disaster, celebrates those who survived (and helped others!) and commemorates those who lost their lives. And then, there is Mark Wahlberg and Kate Hudson starring as a husband and a wife in this movie, which makes it extra great. Definitely, a 5 out 5.

Life can easily get hectic/overwhelming/stressful – you name it. I feel like all these adjectives have become a norm in our everyday lingo. It’s quite sad but it’s the reality of 2017. My personal cure is “…when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher that I” {Psalm 61:2}. First of all, Warren Wiersbe is a brilliant author of countless bestsellers (including my favourite “BE” series) when it comes to studying the Bible. Reading through pages of Pause for Power gives me that pick-me-up boost in the morning. Each page is labelled with a day number and a page-long reading based on a certain topic and a piece of Scripture. There’s no waffling there, no going round in circles. Thankfully, there’s a lot of encouragement in regards to many situations we face in life and reminders how great, merciful and loving God is {read John 3:16}.

It’s always an adventure when you get to explore a new city, you explore the food scene too. Being a bit of a foodie that I am, I was super excited when we walked into The Fourteas when we were on a mini getaway in Stratford-upon-Avon. It’s the coziest vintage tea room inspired by the 40s. You can see it everywhere, starting from the interior to the staff’s dress code. Time travel experience, anyone? Also, they take pride in their tea selection which takes a big chunk of their menu. I ordered Baked Apple fruit tea to go with a slice of a walnut and coffee cake. Everything tasted so incredibly good. Too bad it’s impossible to share the taste and the smell through the pictures but would you just look at the hot chocolate my hubby ordered! Yummers!

It’s never an easy decision to single out one Instagram account I’ve been loving but @rayawashere did stand out. In my January Favourites, as you might have seen, I talked about how much I loved the Insta feed by her boyfriend Louis (more known to the internet world as @funforloius). Both Raya and Louis are super cute and sweet together. They travel the world and share their adventures on their YouTube channels and social media accounts. Raya has a fun-loving personality and that sincerity and realness (is that a word?) in every photo. Plus, it’s refreshing to see someone is all about I-am-the-way-I-am-and-I-don’t-need-to-change-anything image. You don’t have to get “things done” to look beautiful or to be successful

I remember the good ol’ times when I would pick one makeup product I’ve been loving. ONE. How in the world did I manage to choose only one?! In the month of February I have been really enjoying these three beauties.
I have talked about my love for Mac Pro Longwear not only in the posts here and here but also pretty much every time someone asked me about my HG foundation. Even though I am switching to a lighter foundation for spring and summer (if you know me well enough, you might have guessed that it might be this one), Mac Pro Longwear is one of those foundation I always keep coming back to. It is quite “heavy” but if you’re looking for full and flawless coverage AND expect it to stay intact for 8 hours, look no further.
Next up – my new discovery. I was out of my NARS Creamy Concealer (sad times – I love it so much!) and decided to browse around for a little drugstore option. Since I already love Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation and reviewed here, I wanted to give Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer a go. So far, so good. It’s brightening and has a great coverage which is perfect for the under-eye area. However, it creases a lot more comparing to my high-end favourites NARS Creamy Concealer and Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer. At the same time, it does the job well and it’s A LOT better than the much raved Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer.
Last but not least, it is one of the best products of 2017 in my books (so far!). Charlotte Tilbury never disappoints when it comes to those flawless golden bullets filled with creamy lipstick goodness. When lovely Trishna from Tips Capsule surprised me by posting this beauty to me at Christmas, I was swooned. On top of that, Trishna said that she was binge-reading my blog and saw this CT shade in one of my wishlishs. What a sweetheart! It’s not even the luxurious present that blew me away but the thought Trishna put into it. Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Lipstick in Penelope Pink has quickly rocketed into my top favourite nude shades. The texture is soft, creamy and velvety. Let the name not fool you because it hasn’t got much pink to it which, to be honest, is an advantage to me. It’s semi-matte, non-drying and it lasts for good few hours without transferring all over the place. It’s been a perfect day-to-day lipstick, and don’t even get me started on the beautiful signature CT packaging.

Even though (most likely) I have previously shared this quote here on the blog and on my social media, it was – and it still is! – more than relevant to do it again. When my favourite people from Levo shared it on their Instagram, it was one of those “light bulb moments” when you feel like certain words are addressed directly to you. Pushing yourself to the limit to try and do one million things won’t get you anywhere. Yet, focusing and getting your priorities right will take you closer to accomplishing anything you set your mind on. It’s also such a great reminder to enjoy life and not turn it into a giant to-do list. You most definitely can’t do everything so concentrate on what’s important. You can do absolutely anything so dream big, set no limitations when you evaluate your potential and go for it!
