The Body Shop New Expert Facial Masks & Why You Need To Try Them

The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask and Amazonian Acai Energising Radiance Mask - Miel and Mint blog

There are two simple facts about me that never change when it comes to skincare.

1 – I like to experiment and 2 – I’m not that easily swayed to hop on the bandwagon as soon as something new comes out.

To be frank, my “experiments” end up being quite disappointing from time to time. But never with The Body Shop.

That’s why, when they launched a new range of masks, my inner “hold your horses” voice tried to stop me (but failed – yay!).

So on my birthday I made it a little mission to pop into my local The Body Shop, use my birthday discount (£5 off) and put these masks to test to see if they are really hype-worthy. Here’s how it went down.

When it comes to the selection of masks, you might be faced with a challenge.

Because you’d want each one of them, believe me.

The consultant was super enthusiastic about all 5 so that didn’t make it any easier for me.

After a bit of a chit chat and testing I decided to go with the 2 that up’ed my skincare game big time: Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask and Amazonian Acai Energising Radiance Mask.

Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask (£17)

You got me at ‘charcoal’, The Body Shop.

No, seriously, I have always been obsessed with skincare products containing charcoal because of its detoxifying benefits.

Also, from a young age I have been taking activated charcoal tablets every time I had an upset stomach (don’t want to go into too much details but these little guys work like a charm even when you have a food poisoning).

Charcoal is known to bind the toxins and remove them safely from your body.

When it comes to skincare, it is one of those no.1 ingredients for treating acne, shrinking those pores and getting rid of excess oil.

So I opened the jar and I knew right away this one was a keeper.

– its ingredients, including the goodness in the form of Himalayan bamboo charcoal, Japenese green tea leaves and Kenyan organic tea tree oil (The Body Shop does know how to source their stuff!)

– the fact that it’s 100% vegan and parabens-, silicone-, mineral oil- and paraffin-free

– it’s super refreshing and soothing

– it’s gentle on sensitive skin, doesn’t irritate it or over-dry it (I would usually react to this kind of masks with some redness, irritation or dryness but it’s not the case with this mask)

– it has been amazing at helping to clear my skin, especially my “problem areas” (cheeks and chin)

– the texture is incredible: it’s not chunky or “messy” like Mask of Magnaminty (don’t get me wrong, it is still one of my favourites), it applies in a thin layer without much effort and it sets quickly

– great and gentle exfoliation when you’re washing it off

– it leaves my skin well-cleansed, refreshed, nourished and soft

{Not “THE NO” but “THE OH” as in something to keep in mind}

– first 20 seconds of applying this mask are a challenge as it’s very tangy, very menthol’y and could easily make you shed a tear – but the good news is that it soothes quickly and the result is ahhhhmazing

– the price: the mask is £16 which might seem like a lot. BUT (!) it’s 50% cheaper than GlamGlow but, again, the quality and the result stuns and it lasts for a good bit if applied with a brush (couldn’t recommend the brush more!!!) so it’s absolutely worth it!

The Body Shop Amazonian Acai Energising Radiance Mask review

Amazonian Acai Energising Radiance Mask (£17) – discontinued

Jam… Who doesn’t like jam?

The consultant at TBS insisted I checked out the texture and gave this one a sniff test.

Oh boy, if I had my eyes closed I could’ve easily confused this mask for a jar of jam and spread it all over my Saturday morning pancakes.

The texture and the scent is unreal and I knew I needed to get this beauty ASAP right there right then.

This mask was inspired by all things Brazil (think Amazon Forest) with its main ingredient – acai berry.

Acai berries are known for their weight loss benefits and have a mile-long list of advantages for healthy skin. They contain vitamins A, C and E and help to regenerate your skin and enhance its natural glow.

Basically, this mask is a must-have for all of us gals who are constantly tired and whose skin craves that boost of radiance.

– if you like jam, you will fall in love with this mask immediately

– the contents of this mask such as Brazilian acai berry, guarana and babassu oil (which is known for balancing out the natural oils of your skin and it’s also magical on split ends and chapped lips!) make up this incredible concoction of natural goodness – your skin will be thankful

– it’s 100% vegan and free from parabens, silicone, mineral oil and paraffin

– the texture of the mask is jelly-like and you will need to apply a very thin layer to start enjoying it and seeing the benefits (tip: apply with a brush – makes it so much easier and tidier to apply, no contact with fingers/bacteria and it saves the product)

– the scent is very subtle, soothing and lovely (very berry) and not overwhelming one bit

– tiny soft seeds help to exfoliate your skin gently when you’re washing the mask off

– it leaves my skin looking dewy, radiant, hydrated and refreshed

{Again, not “THE NO” – these are not deal-breakers but something you might want to look out for}

– it gets warm, and by “warm” I mean that it heats up quickly and it’s tingly. I sometimes have to fan myself to make it cool down faster haha. But that’s how it works and the result won’t disappoint you one bit. It’s very gentle despite the heat.

– the price: it’s £17 but I will repurchase it once I’m out. It’s worth every penny, in my opinion.

These two masks have definitely been absolute HITS in my books.

I am going to try the other ones from the range in the next few months.

So far I am loving the combination of Himalayan Charcoal and Amazonian Acai

and can see the results on my {very happy} skin.

By the way, when you buy two masks, you get the £8 brush as a gift!

I couldn’t do without this brush, to be honest. Well worth ordering 2 masks in one go.
